beard papa's

Today was one of my best days. With greatest anticipation, beard papa's cream puffs are finally opened (first day was last Saturday). I have been waiting since April. Jeff was on jury duty and ate lunch everyday at Main Place mall and told me it was opening in June. I was so excited and couldn't wait. The first time we ate these delicious cream puffs was in Hawaii over a year ago. Cousin Laura bought them for us. It's been a long time since we got to have one again. We were not disappointed. They were slightly crunchy on the outside and a creamy custard on the inside. Can't wait till we get them again...

puffs are waiting to be filled

the puffs are filled with the custard cream when you order them. then topped with powdered sugar

the pastry is baking in the oven

cute bag

simply beautiful

crispy on the outside, creamy light custard on the inside
(little black dots are vanilla bean)

messy but good till the last bite!!!

cupcakes for jeff

Today is Jeff's birthday and I am making him some homemade cupcakes. I used Mother Fern's wacky cake recipe but used cake flour intead of regular and added extra coco powder. It's hard to understand why this recipe tastes so good when it doesn't contain any eggs or butter.

ready for the oven

15 minutes later and finally done

frosting is yummy, can't wait to try one

looks good

and taste good too. my best batch this year!!!

Happy Birthday Jeff...

sprinkles cupcakes

Part of my birthday wish was to go to sprinkles cupcakes. I love these cupcakes even though they are not the best I have ever had (homemade is the best), they are so cute and pretty tasty too. We have been to sprinkles over 5 times and have tasted a variety of the flavors. Jeff's favorite is the red velvet and for now, mine is coconut. They are very popular on the weekends. Once we waited in line 45 minutes. Not sure that they are worth waiting in line for but I will still do it cause I love cupcakes!!!
